What Is Conditioning?
The answer to that is programming. Your financial conditioning is determining your results, what results are you currently getting? Are they positive and successful or negative and non-supportive?
Your thoughts lead to feelings, which lead to actions, which determine your results. So it all starts with thoughts, or does it? No, it all starts with conditioning.
What were you programmed with when you were young? The majority of our conditioning or programming is done in our younger years up to the age of 7 years old, that is when the sub-conscious takes on everything in our surroundings. At about age 7 the lid to our sub-conscious mind goes on.
So ask yourself these questions… what was going on around me in my younger years? What was being talked about? What was I being told? What experiences was I having?
My parents were very young when I was born; they were 19 years old and did not have a lot of experiences. They lived in a caravan, which was not all that comfortable when you consider the weather in winter in England. They struggled as they had no money and so you get an idea of the conversations that were happening around me when I was a baby.
They made the big move of immigrating to Australia when I was older and they arrived in a new country with very little money, no family, no understanding of the culture or the places. The language I was listening to a lot was “You have to work hard for your money” and “we can’t afford that” and “money doesn’t grow on trees”.
There are 3 elements to conditioning:
Verbal conditioning – what did you hear when you were young?
Modelling – what did you see when you were young?
Experience – what specific things did you have around money or success?
Then as you move into the teenage years and into adulthood we are still creating new beliefs, which form part of our conditioning. What are beliefs? Beliefs are a collection of thoughts we think every single day. Again, we have to ask ourselves now… what am I thinking every single day? Are they positive and successful thoughts or are they negative, critical and non-supportive.
If they are negative and non-supportive you need to go about changing those thoughts. There are many ways we can do that, the most impactful way is to ‘Train Your Mind’ Step 3 of my 7 Steps to Success. In my next blog I’m going to talk about ‘How to undo some of this conditioning?’
