I failed maths and commerce and left high school at 15 years of age. I was rebellious and did not like the rules and procedures that school imposed. I spent more time out of school than I did inside school through the ages of 14 to 15.

I pulled out my old school reports recently and was slightly embarrassed to show my daughter who is now at university. I did not realise you could get an ‘X’ on your report card, I had plenty of them. Why did I spend more time out of school than inside school?

Because I felt a failure; in subjects that did not make sense to me or I did not understand.  A lot of the times it was because of the teacher, just one person that had an impact on my confidence and ability.

Even though I was failing badly at school I was quite popular with the other kids. I managed to network enough so I had multiple groups that I could hang out with, I could move from one circle of friends to another from the bright, talented straight ‘A’ students to the sporty and athletic right through to the rebellious and naughty kids. That was what I was good at… engaging people and socialising.

Fast-forward to now and what I am doing is something very similar to what I was good at all those years ago in a system that failed me.

Its taken me all this time to work out my strengths and what I love doing which is my purpose in life. Without purpose to guide you, whatever you choose will be unfulfilling, unrewarding and disempowering.

It’s like making the choice to complete a university degree in accounting and commerce when I failed miserably in school for the same subjects. However, when I was completing the degree I achieved great levels of success because it connected with some of my core values and I felt it there was a real sense of purpose. I was working more towards the outcome of success and achievement than the idea of working as an Accountant for the rest of my life.

When I got the job as the accountant I hated it because, it did not line up with my values or my purpose in life. In 2005 I left my full-time job forever and in 2010 I started to train people in financial literacy and people out in industry in business and leadership. I was really, really good because it was so in alignment with my core values and my purpose in life.

I felt like I had really found my purpose by inspiring, educating and empowering others to achieve their dreams. Having an online business and real estate investments is just the vehicle what are you doing with those vehicles to fulfil your purpose.
